Brookvale Park Stage 1 - Visioning 2010
Theis consultation is now closed.
During 2010, Council undertook consultation that has confirmed there is broad community support for Brookvale Oval to continue to operate as a regional sporting facility and for it to be more actively utilised for other community uses. The results were be reported to Council on Tuesday 22 November 2010.
Warringah Council owns and manages Brookvale Park, which includes Brookvale Oval, the long time home of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles National Rugby League (NRL) Club. 'Brookie' needs a cash injection for major capital renewal works if it is to continue this ongoing use in the long term.
Council currently pays for the maintenance of the Park using licence fees paid by users who hire the Park, the major one being the Sea Eagles who pay $350,000 each year. These funds provide for general maintenance of the Park's facilities. Additional funding is needed to upgrade, refurbish and replace facilities over time. Ten million dollars, partially secured through a one-off six million dollar grant from the state government, is currently being spent on long overdue renewal works. However these works only secure Brookvale Oval's short to medium term viability as a regional sporting ground. To meet community expectations and secure the long term viability of the Oval as a regional sporting ground , major works will need to be funded in the future.
Council want to explore options to reduce the cost of renewing the Oval in the future without unduly burdening ratepayers. Accordingly, options that could potentially fund future renewal works at the Park need to be explored.
Council will make a decision about a future direction to pursue for the Park before the end of the year. Community preferences and feedback about the options will be reported to Council to inform their decision.
Detailed design and feasibility studies and further consultation will then need to be undertaken.
This web forum is part of a comprehensive community consultation process that provides many opportunities for you to have your say. This web forum is one way for you to stay informed and provide feedback to Council as the project progresses..
