Manly Warringah War Memorial Park (Manly Dam)

Preparation of a new Plan of Management for the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park has begun. The previous Plan was released in July 1998 and since then many of the Plan's strategic initiatives and recommended actions have been completed.

A new Plan of Management is needed to take a fresh look at what the community values about the Park to develop current management actions to maintain, protect and enhance these values. A new Plan of Management is also required to incorporate any recent studies and information and to address contemporary issues such the growing popularity of mountain bike riding and a growing interest in war memorials and remembrance days.

A new Plan of Management is essential to set a new vision for the future of Manly Warringah War Memorial Park and to ensure it retains relevance for the community.

Background

Manly Warringah War Memorial Park is located in the suburb of Allambie Heights in the Warringah Local Government Area (LGA). The Park covers an area of about 375 ha, of which 78% is bushland. Manly Warringah War Memorial Park is Crown Land reserved for Public Recreation.

Significant features of the Park include being the largest individual bushland reserve managed by a local council on the northern beaches and Manly Dam itself, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Sydney. Manly Dam has a surface area of about 30 ha and unlike other waterways in bushland parks, it is freshwater, deep and safe for different water based activities.

The 500 ha catchment surrounding Manly Dam includes bushland, homes, commercial businesses, the Warringah Aquatic Centre, sportsfields and the Wakehurst Golf Course.

Manly Dam and its catchment are located wholly within the boundaries of the Warringah LGA. The Park is adjacent to and separated from Garigal National Park by the Wakehurst Parkway.
